Leonard Chan, CCC

Leonard ChanLeonard Chan manages the environmental remediation division at CCC Chemicals, a wholly Canadian-owned chemical distribution company based in Mississauga, Ontario. He formerly worked for Regenesis, a remediation products supplier, as a business development manager for Eastern Canada. He previously held positions as an environmental consultant with local consulting firms, where we worked on various remediation projects including the design and implementation of biosparging, bioremediation, and soil vapour extraction systems. He obtained his B.Sc and M.Sc from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. His M.Sc thesis was a joint project with the National Research council and the work was carried out at the Biotechnology Research Institute in Montreal.

Craig Wells, Department of National Defence (DND)

Mr. Wells has been managing the Goose Bay Remediation project on behalf of the Department of National Defence since 2005, during which time he has managed other contaminated site projects across Canada.  Prior to his current position, he worked on various Federal programs related to water resources, air quality, and environmental management.  As well, Mr. Wells worked on a multitude of environmental projects in the private sector prior to joining the Public Service.  He graduated in 1999 from the University of Ottawa with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Scott Lewis – Senior Manager, Corporate Development & Environment

Cobalt is a Real Estate Investment and Advisory Services company that specialize in developments, sales, leasing and property management.  It also has a dedicated team that focuses on Environmental Program Management services for its customers.  Cobalt acquires, owns and manages a geographically diversified real estate portfolio with over 400 current retail holdings. Our major holdings consist primarily of commercial retail outlets throughout Atlantic Canada, Quebec, and New England.

Todd Herrington, Regenesis

Mr. Herrington provides remediation technology selection expertise, engineering design and oversight services to Regenesis clients in the Western U.S. and Canada.  Mr. Herrington has over 15 years of environmental remediation experience and has been with Regenesis since 2004.  Mr. Herrington is an expert in in situ bioremediation and in situ chemical oxidation (ISCO) and has been involved in the design of implementation of hundreds of contaminated site remediation projects during his tenure at Regenesis. He earned his B.S. in Civil Engineering from Colorado State University and his M.S. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Cincinnati.  Mr. Herrington is also a Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) in his home state of Colorado.

Darryl Nelson, Nelson Environmental Remediation Ltd.

Darryl R. Nelson, CEO and President, founded Nelson Environmental Remediation Ltd. in 1993 ( www.nerglobal.com ) as an Alberta-based company specializing in the cleaning of soils that have been contaminated with organic compounds, particularly petroleum hydrocarbons (e.g., drill sites, well-head areas, flare-pits, oil pipeline ruptures, tank farm areas, manufactured- gas plant (MGP) sites, etc.). Built on extensive prior experience in oilfield road construction in Alberta’s oil-patch, NER can mobilize to jobsites at remote-locations worldwide, and is fully self- sufficient regarding trucking, heavy earthmoving equipment, thermal desorption units (TDU plants), fuel, water, crew accommodations, catering, transport, etc. For overseas jobs (e.g., Hawai’i, Spain, Nigeria, Albania, Iraq), equipment and plants are either barged or shipped from Seattle, WA, or out of Houston, TX. NER has twenty years of experience in mobile ex situ thermal desorption for the decontamination of PHCs-impacted soils (e.g., crude oil, diesel, jet fuel, gasoline, gas-well condensates, etc.). NER decontaminates soils of all kinds by means of mobile TDUs, which can mobilize to practically any contaminated site anywhere in the world, particularly in remote-locations, year-round. Jean Paré, Chemco Inc./FMC

Jean Pare, P.Eng., has a degree in Chemical Engineering from Laval University. He has been involved for the last 18 years in the evaluation, development, design, and promotion of both conventional and innovative environmental technologies. As Vice President with Chemco Inc., his responsibilities include the remediation design, technico-economical analysis and technology supply for chemical oxidation and reduction, soil washing, and enhanced bio-remediation. Last year, he worked with over 300 sites applying its expertise to various types of organic and inorganic contaminants in soil and groundwater.

He is also involved with many environmental organizations with the CLRA, CBN, ESAA, OCETA and Reseau-Environnement where he is an active technical committee member and occasional speaker.

Bruce Tunnicliffe, Vertex Environmental Inc.

Mr. Tunnicliffe is President of Vertex Environmental Inc., is an Environmental Engineer, and has more than 14 years of experience designing and implementing remediation of chlorinated solvents and petroleum hydrocarbons. Having worked on more than 250 Sites, Mr. Tunnicliffe has extensive experience on in-situ remediation techniques, delivery options and in-situ amendments in both soil and bedrock environments. Mr. Tunnicliffe holds a Master’s degree from the University of Waterloo, has authored many publications, and has presented at numerous conferences. He is a Professional Engineer, and acts as senior reviewer for Vertex’s designs and deliverables.

Perry D. Gerwing, Earthmaster Environmental Strategies Inc.

Perry D. Gerwing, B.S.A., M.Sc., is a specialist in reclamation and contaminated site assessment and remediation. He has worked as an environmental specialist for large oil and gas corporations and environmental consulting firms for over 25 years. He has co‐authored and published many scientific papers and as President of Earthmaster Environmental Strategies Inc., an environmental consulting firm, has spent a number of years developing and implementing successful phytoremediation programs for clients.

Gordon H. Bures, Frac Rite Environmental Ltd.

Gordon Bures is a professional engineer, co-founder and Principal at Frac Rite Environmental Ltd. based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geological Engineering at the University of Manitoba in 1985, and a Master of Environmental Engineering Degree at the University of Alberta in 1993. Gordon is a seasoned practitioner with 25 years experience in the in situ design and implementation of remediation systems at contaminated industrial, commercial, and municipal sites across Canada, the USA, Europe, Asia, and Africa. For the past fifteen years, he helped develop and commercialize in situ remediation technologies and is a co-patent holder of the BIO FRACTM process with industry colleagues. His current focus is on business development and the implementation of advanced in situ remediation technologies across Canada, the U.S.A, and overseas markets.

Joe A.Ricker, EarthCon Consultants, Inc.

Mr. Ricker is a Principal Engineer for EarthCon Consultants, Inc. and is responsible for managing various environmental investigation, remediation, and property evaluation and redevelopment projects.  He was formerly an Environmental Engineer in the CERCLA remediation division for a multi-national Specialty Chemical Corporation.  Mr. Ricker has over 19 years of industrial and environmental consulting experience involving the development, implementation and management of complex, interdisciplinary environmental investigation, remediation and construction projects involving past and present environmental liabilities.  Mr. Ricker received his M.S. degree from the University of Memphis and his B.S. degree from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
